This is a tumblelog, kinda like a blog but with short-form, mixed-media posts with stuff I like. Scroll down a bit to start reading, or a bit more to read more about me.
NY. You’re full of fierce attitude and favor the strong, I get it. But what’s so wrong with being a sassy bitch on the inside, and approachable looking on the outside??
I start a new job next week, and I thought what better time to get my hair done. As it turns out, there must have been a much better time. Because I got way more than a haircut, I got a lifestyle change.
I’m not sure where it all went awry. I brought 3 photos. I gave explicit instructions. I used terms like “nothing drastic,” “medium brown” and “long layers”. In short, I asked for Helena Christensen…and I got Joan Jett. But not even the real Joan Jett. I got the Twilight version of her. Maybe it was my attitude. Maybe it was the fact that I mentioned I lived in Williamsburg. I really can’t say for sure. But I’ve spent the last several days trying to live up to this new do. Trying to make it work. Wearing leather pants. Kicking children. Smoking cigarettes and giving confrontational eye contact and lewd gestures right and left on the subway. But it’s not working, I can’t pull it off. I flip people off only to apologize and ask if they’d like a fresh baked cookie. I’m more Minneapolis than East Village. So, I’m going to a different place tonight to see if they can help turn this identity crisis situation around. I tried to be positive and make this work, even though it was so vastly different than what I’d asked for…but I’m more banjo than electric guitar. Here’s to hoping there’s a compromise to be found. And if not, I apologize in advance for the foul language on the L, it’s not me, it’s my hair.
As a writer in advertising, I’m always seeking new and interesting ways in which different mediums can work together to create a story, a fluid conversation. And where I strive to create with words, Alexa Meade creates with unusual visual elements. Designing installations that are an active conversation between paint, photography, and real life models - Alexa redefines “still life” art in a modern and inspiring way. Check out more of her work here.
